Laura Linney, best known for her strong but weak characters, is among of the most well-known American actors of today. Born to a famous playwright's father but being raised by a single mother who worked in the field of nursing, she was drawn to theatre when working with her father during the summer then pursuing acting studies, first at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short months after graduating she began her Broadway-based career. In the following year, she made her debut in TV and film. Since then she has appeared in a variety of TV productions, films as well as stage productions. There have been numerous awards during her professional career. This includes four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards and three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theater is her main interest and she is determined to play on the stage and on screen.
